How long can a motorhome be parked on the street in Alberta?

multiple R.V.s parked on street

How long can a motorhome be parked on the street in Alberta? The City of Edmonton has a number of rules RV owners must follow when parking and storing their RVs. Knowing how to park and store your RV properly in Edmonton can not only save you a considerable amount of hassle and potential fines, but it will also ensure your neighbours stay happy with your storage choices!

As camping season reaches its close, here are some answers to common questions regarding RV parking and storage!

How long can a motorhome be parked on the street?

During peak camping hours, April 1st to October 31st, a motorhome can be parked on the street immediately beside the owner/operator’s residence for up to 72 hours. After 3 days, any vehicle is considered abandoned. After 72 hours, your motorhome needs to be moved off the street for 48 hours before it can be moved back onto the street.

Note: Trailers are only allowed to be parked on the street if they are connected to a vehicle. Unattached trailers (trailers meaning all travel trailers and fifth wheels, tent trailers, as well as boat trailers and other utility trailers) can never be parked on city streets.

Can you park an RV in your yard or driveway?

In the summer months (April 1st to October 31st) you can park your RVs in your yard or driveway. Between November 1st and March 31st if you are not actively using your RV, it is required that your RV be stored in a rear yard or inside a garage at a residence. It is also required that the storage for your RV not be open-access (such as a yard without a fence). If you do not actively use your RV in the winter months, you cannot park your RV in your driveway. If you actively use your RV during the winter months, the same rules apply for your RV as are in the summer months, where your RV can be in your driveway and on the street for up to 72 hours.

Where can you store your RV in the winter?

If you’re not going to use your RV in the winter, Edmonton bylaw requires you store your RV in a back, fenced-in yard or inside a garage on your property. If you are unable to store your RV on your property in this way, you need to find a different storage facility for your RV.
